One of the main requirements for the system duringInstalling the operating system WIndows XP on removable media (USB-disk) is the physical disconnection of all hard disks except flash-disk and drive.

Requirements for USB-drive are limited by the amount of memory: at least 2 gigabytes.

You will need

  • - Windows XP-
  • - removable USB-disk-
  • - FlashBootXP

Instructions

Make sure that the removable disk is defined on the system as a hard disk and format the USB drive in the FAT32 file system (if necessary).

Insert the Windows XP installation disc into the drive and restart the computer, specifying the BIOS as the primary boot device in the BIOS.

Start the installation of the operating system by specifying the installation on the USB drive without changing the system.

Wait for the installation files to be copied and automatically rebooted.

Disconnect the computer and boot from the hard drive without disconnecting the removable disk.

Download the FlashBootXP archive and unzip the contents into a temporary folder.

Click the "Start" button to open the main system menu and go to the "Run" item.

Type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry branch and specify the "Load hive" command in the "File" menu of the "Registry Editor" application window.

Go to the flash_name: WindowsSystem32Config and open the file system.

Enter 123 in the partition selection window and right-click the context menu of the connected partition.

Expand the Permissions link and select Administrators from the menu that appears.

Select the "Full Control" check box and click the "Apply" button.

Go to "Advanced" and select "Administrators".

Select the "Replace permissions for all child objects with the permissions that apply to child objects" check box, and then click OK.

Call the service menu of the previously unzipped file USBOOT.REG and specify the "Merge" item.

Confirm that you are ready to make changes to the system registry and return to the Registry Editor tool.

Specify the previously created section 123 and select the "Unload Hive" command in the "File" menu of the top toolbar of the program window.

Close the "Registry Editor" tool and copy the previously unzipped files to the folder named after the flash drive: WindowsInf.

Turn off the computer and turn off the hard drives.

Run the operating system from the removable media.
