How best to paint OSB

How best to paint OSB

OSB, or oriented strand boardis engineered wood products, is widely used for wall, floor and roof. The plate has no internal cavities, and therefore it is stronger than plywood.

Finishing can be performed using virtually any material.

It is possible to paint, putty, varnish, glue and plaster.

Today, many homeowners in finishing hishome use is OSB. These plates are easy to mount and remove, if necessary, through them easily pass screws and besides, they are environmentally friendly material. The composition of boards includes several layers of wood, forming a variegated surface which is more difficult to paint. Therefore, it is useful to know some features of the process, greatly facilitate the solution to this difficult problem.

Primer plates

OSB plate painting begins with the surface of the primer. To do this, you can use diluted with water or glue PVA primer deep penetration.

Water for diluting the adhesive must be carefully filtered.

Prime with the plate by using an aqueous varnish, which can be an acrylic, polyurethane or acrylic. For this lacquer is diluted with water, while respecting 1:10, ten pieces of lacquer one part water.

Instead of deep penetration primer can also be used lacquer based on alkyd, which must be diluted before applying mineral spirits.

It is worth noting that the alkyd varnish gives the plate yellowness.

Once the primer is dry, and there is it no earlier than 8 hours, the plate can be painted.

plate Painting

For coloring plates osb can use water-based or oil-based paints. Apply it is possible to brush, roller or spray.

Do not use water-based paint, as it can lead to swelling of the boards.

As is known, the paint tends to spread on sharp corners. Therefore, even before the commencement of works round off the corners of the plate light sanding. This is especially true OSB used for exterior finish.

First stained slab perimeter and onlythen the rest of the surface. Increased attention needs to be paid at the same time painting the edge, whose surface is more porous than the plate plane. Therefore, we must pay special attention to sealing the edges, which is carried out before application of the primer.

If you finish using plates means that the edge will be visible at the end of the work, they are encouraged to fill in the cellulosic filler and sanded.

Some people believe that a thick layer of paint is bestthin. But it's not right. It is better to apply several thin layers than one, but thick. With each successive layer should be applied only after the complete drying of the previous one.
