One of the most burning problems of theologyHas always been theodicy. Literally this means "god-righteousness," but more accurately this can be defined as the resolution of a contradiction: if God is good, why He created evil, and whether He created at all. If He did not create it, why does it exist - because all things are created by God.
The ratio of good and evil is often represented inThe Hegelian law of "unity and struggle of opposites". From this point of view, evil even appears to be a necessary element of Being. It is noteworthy that most often this point of view is expressed by people who did not face the real evil - they did not survive the war, did not become a victim of crimes.
Accepting this point of view,That evil is an independent entity, equivalent to good. This was based, for example, on the Albigensian heresy: God (the bearer of good) and the Devil (the bearer of world evil) seemed to be equal beings, with God and good being associated only with the spiritual world, and the Devil and evil with the material, Human body. But this is heresy - a doctrine rejected by the church, and not without reason.
The essence of evil
It seems to man that everything in the world is any object,Any phenomenon - must have an independent essence. In part, this is due to human thinking, operating concepts, generalizations, revealing the essence of objects and phenomena. The erroneousness of such a representation can be proved even by the example of physical phenomena.
Here are a couple of opposites - heat and cold. Heat is the movement of molecules, and cold is less intense movement. Theoretically, even a cold is possible, in which there will be no movement of molecules at all (absolute zero). In other words, in order to define the cold, it is necessary to use the definition of heat, the cold is a small amount of heat or its absence, it has no independent essence.
So it is with light and darkness. Light is radiation, a stream of particles. There are bodies that radiate light - stars, spirals in electric incandescent lamps - but there is not a single body in the universe that radiates darkness. Even black holes do not, they just do not emit light. Darkness also does not have its own essence, being the absence of light.
In the light of such analogies becomes clearThe ratio of good and evil. Goodness is the natural state of the Universe that corresponds to the Divine plan, and in this sense good is created by God. Evil is the absence of this state, its destruction. Self is not evil, so it is impossible to create it at all. Here the person has made murder - he created nothing, he has destroyed a life. The woman has betrayed her husband - she again created nothing, she destroyed her family ... examples can be multiplied endlessly, but the essence is clear: neither God nor anyone else could create evil.
Evil and Freedom of Will
This understanding of evil raises the question of the causes of such violations in the Universe. To a certain extent this is due to the very essence of Creation.
God created man in His image and likeness. He did not create a "robot", which can be programmed - He created a living, thinking, evolving being, independently making decisions. The same free will is possessed by other intelligent creatures of God - the angels, and this allows them and people to follow the Will of God.
The Will of God organizes the universe, and following it- maintaining order in the universe. If we turn again to physics, we can recall that maintaining any ordered structure requires energy. Following the Will of God also requires effort, which not everyone agrees. The first "dissent" was one of the angels - Satan, who thus fell away from God and became the source of destruction of the world order established by Him.
People also regularly refuse to make effortsTo "maintaining the world order" at its micro level. "Spilling emotions" in shouting and offensive words is much easier than to reflect on the feelings of the interlocutor. It is easier to follow the immediate desire of the flesh than to take care of your wife and children all your life. Stealing money is easier than making money ... that's how evil is born. And you do not need to assign God responsibility for its creation - evil people create themselves, rejecting His will.
