Euroleague - an annual basketball tournament, taking place on a complex multi-stage scheme.
Its goal - among the 38 strongest club teams of the old world to identify the four strongest, between which the final series of games is then held.
It is called the "Final Four" and every year it takes place in different cities and countries.
This spring the Euroleague final was held in Istanbul, Turkey, and the strongest of the Russian basketball clubs - CSKA Moscow - again made their way.
The group stage of the Euroleague CSKA started in the middleOctober last year, an exit meeting with the Lithuanian "Zalgiris". No problems in this game the champion of Russia did not experience and won with a margin of 13 points - 87:74. Then the army team consistently beat all six rivals in the group both in away matches and in home games. Some difficulties the domestic grandee experienced at this stage only twice - in guest games with the Greek "Panathinaikos" (78:76) and with the modest European basketball standards by the German club "Bamberg" (81:78). CSKA took first place in the group, although to get to the next stage it was enough not to get to one of the last two places.
The last meeting of the group stage took placeBefore Christmas, December 21, and after almost a month the next stage of the tournament began - the Muscovites beat another Greek club, "Olympiakos" from Piraeus. At this stage, CSKA played in a group where besides the Greeks there were two Turkish teams - Galatasaray and Efes Pilsen. One of them - "Galatasaray" - CSKA and lost for the first time in the Euroleague 2011-2012 draw. This happened in early February, but did not affect the outcome of the fight - winning in all other meetings CSKA was the first in the final table.
In the next stage - the quarterfinals - teamsPlayed up to three wins of one of them. The rival of Muscovites was the Spanish club "Bilbao Basket", which only once managed to beat CSKA. This was the third match of the series, won by the army team with a total score of 3: 1, which gave them a ticket to the "Final Four". The rival of our club in the semi-finals were the Greeks from the Panathinaikos who were defeated twice in the group stage and who did not resist this time. However, the game was very difficult - the army had to recoup three quarters and only in the last they caught up in the rivals' account and snatched the victory with a difference of just two points (66:64).
The final match of CSKA - Olympiakos took place on 13May at the stadium "Sinan Erdem Dome" in the Turkish capital. And this Greek team CSKA played twice in the preliminary stage, but, alas, the final match became a mirror image of the semi-final. In it the champion of Russia led in the account three quarters, and in the final there was a catastrophe - Muscovites could not keep an advantage in 13 points. After losing the last quarter with a score of 8:22 they finished the match with a difference of one point not in their favor - 61:62.
